Sometimes it’s a lot easier to see education in action rather than get caught up in the feedback loop of “that’s all very well in practice, but how does it work in theory?”. The videos on this page are from a jazz education masterclass given by Dr. J.B. Dyas at Loyola University in New Orleans.

Dr. Dyas has been a leader in jazz education for the past two decades. Currently Vice President for Education and Curriculum Development at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, Dyas oversees the Institute’s education and outreach programs including Jazz in America (www.jazzinamerica.org), one of the most significant and wide-reaching jazz education programs in the world.

The total running time of this video material is around 90 minutes, so it has been divided into ten different sections in the interests of digestibility.
