Limerick Jazz Workshop is Back

LYJWOur ensemble-based format is a great way to learn and allows students to apply what they have practiced at home in a practical way leading up to a number of public performances. We cater for all ages and levels of experience once you have some basic facility on your instrument and are prepared to put in a reasonable amount of practice.

Our adult classes will take place as usual at the Learning Hub Limerick in Kileely.  We have two new classes starting this term: the first is a specialist singers class with Joe O’Callaghan and the second is a reeds and brass ensemble class with Bryan Meehan.  This class is designed to teach some of the skills involved in big band section playing and will not require participants to improvise.  We have had to put back our start time on Tuesdays a bit so the timetable is now as follows:
6.45pm-7.45pm Beginners, Singers, Reeds and Brass Ensemble
7.45pm-9.45pm Regular Ensemble Classes

We have also changed the time and venue for our junior workshop. These now will take place from 7pm to 9pm on Monday evenings at the Peter Dee Academy of Music.

This year’s Spring Semester starts on January 28th and will conclude with our Summer gig in early May.  As well as our regular sessions we have two very exciting master classes in February.  The first of these features Dublin’s Ronan Guilfoyle (bass) and Michael Buckley (saxophone) together with two visitors from the famous Berklee School of Music in Boston, Rick Peckham (guitar) and Bob Gullotti (drums). The second is a specialist vocal masterclass with Lauren Kinsella, who was a big hit with our students last semester.  In recognition of the times that are in it we are maintaining the cost per session at a recession-busting €15 (€10 concessions) with a maximum charge of €180 (€120).

If you have any questions please contact Ed Hansom at limerickimprov@gmail.com or 0866025661, or check out www.limerickjazz.com/workshops/. If you would like to take part for the first time, or if you know somebody who might wish to get involved we will hold a number of assessment sessions before January 28th and we will do our best to get you involved if you can’t make the initial sessions.
